Trip to the UK

Dear Friends,

We are back at home after spending four days in the UK!! Driving on the left was not easy at all, especially when your woman is on her side of the car screaming and making odd sounds every so often! And to think I only 'clipped' the curb on her side of the car a few times and never actually endangered us but maybe a time or two!

Wales was awesome! So rural and beautiful. England was so crowded! We had a good time though and it was nice to get back to Prague even though we got on the wrong bus to come home (10 pm at night) but we got it all sorted out in short order and were home by 11.

Wow, we found a church they had named after me and I didn't even know they knew me! Here is the photo to prove it!

We pray that you all will have a safe and happy New year!

Glad I'm Not a Carp!

Hey friends! Here in the Czech Republic they have a Christmas tradition where the family buys a carp for Christmas dinner. In the rural areas they take the live carp home and it lives in the tub for a few days before the big dinner. Here in Prague the sellers of the carp take it out of the tanks and prepare it for the people buying it. Funny thing is many Czechs don't even like carp - but they have it anyway because it is tradition.
Alvine and I are leaving in the morning for the UK! We'll rent a car and drive over to Wales and spend Christmas somewhere. We're not sure where we will be so we can't make reservations. Hopefully we'll find some place that will take us in. We'll report on this later.
We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We so appreciate each of you and your prayers for us.
Love, In Christ, John and Alvine

Keeping My Promise - Again!

Dear Friends,

Wow! two weeks in a row and I am keeping my promise to post each week! Will wonders never cease?

A very good friend of ours from church was hit by a car early last week and she was in critical condition until many of you started praying for her! I am happy to report that Asma is doing very well now! She will have her broken cheekbone repaired tomorrow. We are so grateful to be a part of the Christian community that prays for one another! Thank yo so much.

My brithday came and passed with several folks emailing me that that saw my name in the Open Windows and that they prayed for me. That means so much to us. We went to Germany and picked up a few grocery items that are not available here in Prague - like Miracle Whip. Note the spelling on the jar!!

December 9 Makin' Good on a Promise

Dear friends,

I wrote in the last post that I would try to do one a week, so why not? Nothing major to post but we did decide to spend Christmas in the UK!! We will leave on the 23rd and rent a mini car and tour around the UK, hoping to see Stone Henge, Scotland, and Wales. We'll keep ya posted!

My knee is worsening more and more by the day. Will have to see the doctor again but hope to hold off until after Christmas.

This week is or last class at the University - we will sing Christmas Carols and eat Alvine's cookie fare!! We shared with them last week about the true meaning of Christmas (from a Biblical viewpoint).

You all take care now! Oh yeah, I shared my Three-Legged Pig joke with the class but they didn't seem to find it funny. Imagine that!

I Know, I Know, but We've Been BUSY!!

Hello Friends. It has been way too long I know, but like the title says - we've been busy. We made a very short video of our time at home during Thanksgiving. You can watch it by clicking on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOF-BmrgD0c I've never tried posting a video before - I hope this works. Hey! It does work - I tried it. Oh yeah, there is NO sond so don't adjust anything. I will have to learn about sound!

We are now less than a year from going back to Kentucky. We like it here and our ministry and all, but we are also getting excited about living back in Kentucky! We really enjoyed our time back in the states. We were only there for 7 days but it was great! We spent time with family and with folks from 3 of our former churches - it was great!

Okay, I am going to try and put a little something here at least once a week - I promise!!
